CELEBRATING THE CULINARY DIVERSITY OF INDIA AT FOOD FAIR
Unity in diversity is not just a constitutional value but a very essential value for children. It is essential for children to accept the fact that society is not homogeneous. Our curriculum lays special emphasis upon including this diversity in classroom teaching and makes it a crucial aspect of teaching. This makes children accept their social and cultural environment and develop respect for it. One aspect of diversity is ‘food’. Different regions of India have different food items. In order to inculcate a sharing habit and to make them aware about the Culinary diversity, a Food Fair was organized in the school by the students of Grade 3 wherein they brought traditional dishes from their homes. They witnessed variety of foods from different States like Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar etc. They beautify their food through presenting regional dishes, as well as explaining about them. They were dressed up traditionally. Food and celebrations unite people in the same family . It was a wonderful experience for the little Presidians.
